• John Rigney arrived in the Washington Territory on 15 May 1849.

• Rigney stated he declared his intention of becoming a U.S. citizen in the Marine Court, City of New York previous to enlistment and obtained final papers in the U.S. District Court at Steilacoom Washington Territory (no date stated). He stated he enlisted 13 Sep 1847 in company M., First Regiment, U.S. Artillery and was sent to Mexico, and after the end of the war he was sent to Fort Steilacoom WA territory, where he was discharged 13 Sep 1852. In the marriage certificate his bride is "of Queen's County".

• His son John Lowry Rigney was the first white child born in Western Washington. He was a twin and his twins name was Ann.

• James T. Eustace, 85 years of age, died Jan 1, 1999. He was born in Olympia and was a descendent of early Washington territory pioneers. James was retired from the plumbers and steamfitters union local #82 with over 50 years of service. He also held office in several positions within the union and was instrumental in establishing the trust and pension programs. survivors include Margaret, his wife of 60 yers; sons, Richard W. Eustace Sr. of Gallup, NM and James E. Eustace of Tacoma, WA,; Three grandchildren, kimberly L. Stearns and Richard W. Eustace Jr. of Gallup, NM., Tiffney M. Riley of Seattle, WA,; and five great-grandchildren. Services will be Wed., Jan 6, 1999 at 3:00 p.m. in the Mt. View Garden Chapel. Arrangements by Mountain View Funeral Home. 584-0252. 3674 • One of Shelton's earliest pioneers, Robert A. Allen Sr., died here August 20 after a long illness. He was 85 years of age. Mr. Allen first came to Shelton in 1884 as an employee of the Satsop railroad, now the Simpson Logging company railroad. Later, he left Shelton for several years, returning here in 1888, and continuing as a resident here since that time. Mr. Allen had been employed almost continuously on the railroad, first outside, and later in the railroad shops, since returning here in 1888. He was retired by the company about 10 years ago. Mr. Allen was born June 22, 1863, in Cleveland, Ohio, and had spent more than 60 of his 85 years in Shelton. Funeral services were held at 9 a.m. yesterday from St. Edward's Catholic church, under the direction of Father Mark Wiechmann. Interment was at Holy Cross Cemetery here. Survivors include five daughters, Mrs. Beatrice Fieser, Seattle, Mrs. Katherine Kafferlin, Raymond, Mrs. Margaret Biery, Seattle, Mrs. Bernice Slater, Tacoma, and Mrs. dorothy Cardinal, Shelton; two sons, Phillip, Seattle, and Robert, Jr., Shelton, 10 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
